Berry and Flaxseed Breakfast Smoothie

Smoothies are a great breakfast option if you often find yourself in a rush or just don’t really like sitting down with a traditional bowl of cereal or porridge. All you have to do is put all the ingredients in a blender for a few seconds and you’ve got an easy to eat, nutritious meal.

I love using yoghurt as base to give a creamy texture, and by mixing up the fruit you add you can have endless combinations. For this one I used blueberries and strawberries as they are in season. I used frozen strawberries to keep the smoothies cold but I also find that keeping them pre-chopped in the freezer is a good idea because they last longer (berries can go off so fast) and you’ll always have some on hand for smoothies.

To boost the nutritional value I added in some Linwoods Milled Flaxseed and Goji Berry which is a great source of anti-oxidants, vitamins, Omega 3, fibre, zinc and iron all of which are great for helping your immune system fight off colds and flus.

To add a bit of extra natural sweetness I added in a sprinkle of cinnamon, which also helps control blood glucose levels, and honey which has anti-bacterial properties.

Berry Flaxseed Breakfast Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 160g Greek Yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon (13g) Linwoods Milled Flaxseed and Goji Berry
  • 50g Frozen Strawberries
  • 30g Blueberries
  • Sprinkle of Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of Honey (can use more or less depending on how sweet you like it).

Method

  • Simply blend all the ingredients together in a Nutribullet or blender until smooth.

   This is probably one of the simplest recipes I have but usually the simpler something is the better!
